The sign of V is an inverted version of one of the most popular gestures: the V-sign. This is done by lifting and separating the index and middle fingers, while pressing the remaining fingers and keeping the palm facing the loudspeaker. The palm facing inwards or outwards, can alter the meaning.
A theory People on the inverted V signal back all the time for England and France were at war. The English archers were particularly feared and considered the best archers. When the English archers were captured French cut the index and middle fingers of the hand to make them useless as archers must have be future battles. As a crude form of psychological warfare of the English archers have shown that these two fingers to the French before the battle to prove they were capable of kicking ass on the battlefield.
