If you thought for a moment that 79 years, Bobby Bowden, was ready to retire as head coach of the State Florida, forget, especially after his Seminoles sent Wisconsin 42-13 in the Champs Sports Bowl Saturday (12-27-08).
For Bowden, the victory over Wisconsin was like a deja vu, a big play offense - and hard, vicious, opportunistic defense to move the Badgers return them in the eye of origin. The Special teams Seminoles' has in the face of the Badgers.
When the State of Florida had to punt the player who has the right to Graham Gano, winning the Lou Groza Award as the best kicker in the nation. Gano All he did was on average 48 + yards on 5 punts and place 3 of them in 4, 2, Wisconsin 1-yard line.
Talk about backing your opponent against the goal line, had just the right touch Gano, earned him the MVP award. When, if ever, have you heard of a player to win the MVP award in a bowl game?
On defense, both Derek Nicholson and Watson Dekoda escaped returned for touchdowns, Nicholson, for 75 yards and Watson, 51. Talk about emotion.
After both teams had not scored in the 1st quarter, Florida State scored 2 touchdowns in each of the 2, 3, and 4 th quarters.
Wisconsin continuously from the bottom of their own territory and did not ever really followed. PJ Hill has managed to gain 140 yards on 15 carries for the Badgers, but quarterback Dustin Sherer completed only 4 of 9 for 55 yards during the first three quarters.
It was an ugly end to the season in Wisconsin. In the early Badgers were ranked as Important as 9th in the AP Top 25 Poll, but Wisconsin has always been exaggerated in recent years. The loss is 7-6.
The victory put Florida State 9-4 in the first Seminole to 9-win season since 2004. Bobby Bowden is best used after reaching a minimum of 9 wins in 17 of the 18 years before tailing off in recent seasons. Several of their key players returning next year, without a good reason to stop smoking, even in 80.
NCAA Champs Sports Bowl Florida State, leading the 27th consecutive Bowl Self Improvement Bowden Bowl record to 21-10-1. Bowden has 382 career wins, only 1 below 383 in Penn State, Joe Paterno, the major college record. Paterno is 82 years young.
Both Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno will probably take place in a football stadium on a stretcher when they leave training. Those guys are icons and extremely competitive. Although they both deny it, everyone wants to make history with more wins ever, and show every year polling the tape.
